Southern No. 168  Contributor's Pick!
Southern Railway train No. 168 heads north out of Oliver Yard in New Orleans behind GP38's 2726 and 2742, GP38-2 5052 and GP30 2625. The lead unit is crossing the Southern's BACK BELT and the trailing loco is on Florida Boulevard. The train had 89 cars with cabooses X334 and X772. The diesel shop -- which was subsequently razed to enlarge the intermodal yard -- is in the upper center of the photo and the yard office is at the upper right. The photo was taken from the Almonaster Avenue overpass.
