Description:  Kansas City Southern GP38-2 4007 was outside the diesel shop at the railroad’s WEST YARD, just west of New Orleans. This unit has been repainted and wears larger cab numbers.

Title:  SOU U23B 3917
Description:  Southern Railway U23B 3917 is about to enter Oliver Yard in New Orleans with a special train of oversize steel girders. Although it is an extra train, it was flying green flags, which show that it was running as a section of a regularly-scheduled train… in this case; it was operating as First No. 169.

Description:  Eastbound Union Pacific train FNZ was descending the Huey P. Long Bridge behind Missouri Pacific SD40-2 3295, MP B30-7A 4820, Western Pacific GP40 3519 and MP SD40-2 3164. The train was on its way to the Seaboard System’s GENTILLY YARD.

Title:  Southern SD Units on Huey P. Long Bridge
Description:  An eastbound train was descending the Huey P. Long Bridge behind a trio of Southern Railway 6-axle units: SD40 3188, SD40-2 3243 and SD45 3168. The train originated at the Missouri Pacific’s AVONDALE YARD, at the west end of the bridge, and would become Southern Railway train 114 when a Southern crew took over at the east end of the bridge.

Southern Diner 3306
Title:  Southern Diner 3306
Description:  Southern Railway dining car 3306 was on the northbound SOUTHERN CRESCENT leaving Birmingham station. The car was built by Budd in late 1949, became Amtrak 2nd 8380 in 1979 and then Amtrak HERITAGE FLEET car 8521. It was offered for sale in Amtrak’s 4 January 2019 equipment auction and went to the Branson Scenic Railroad.
