Remarkable photo of a tired and worn-out looking SD40, Michael!!!! KCS 627:1 (SD40) rebuilt to KCS 627:2 (SD40-3) by VMV from CSX SD45 #8930 in August 1995. Unit history: Ex1: KCS SD45 #2030. Ex2: SBD #2030. Ex3: SBD #8930. Ex4: CSX #8930. CSX sold unit to VMV.

This locomotive -- 627:1 -- was retired by the KCS in August 1985, and became Soo Line 6405 in Jul 1986. KCS SD40M-2 627:2 was originally SCL SD45 2030, then SBD and CSX 2030, and then CSX and VMV 8930, before being rebuilt by VMV for the KCS.
