| Kansas City Southern 771 was one of 17 former Conrail GP40's (KCS 760-776) purchased in October 1983. The 771 had been built as Penn Central 3145 in September 1968 and was just out of the paint shop when it was photographed at West Yard, just outside of New Orleans. The locomotive was sold to Morrison-Knudsen in 1991, then rebuilt with a new nose in October 1994 as MARC GP40WH-2 number 60. After it was retired by MARC, M-K rebuilt it again in 2014 - with another new front end - as SunRail MP32PH-Q 107. |
