The Illinois Central Gulf's IMX (Intermodal Exchange) for New Orleans was located at one end of the railroad's Stuyvesant Docks Yard. For most of the twentieth century, the docks and yard were a major asset for the IC, providing the railroad with its own wharves along the Mississippi River and a convenient location to serve customers in this area. During its existence, the ice dock here prepared hundreds of thousands of reefers for their journey north with loads of bananas. When this photo was taken, most of the yard had been sold to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans, and the track had been removed. The CN sold the rest of its property to the Port in 2002 and moved its intermodal operations out tho Mays Yard in April 2003. An SW14 can bee seen with a train of covered hoppers just to the left of the water tower, while the yard office and unused engine serving area is to the right. The wide street crossing the end of the yard is Napoleon Avenue, and just beyond there is the New Orleans Public Belt's mostly-empty Cotton Warehouse Yard.
