DWCX sleeper 501 SCRAP IRON
DWCX 501 SCRAP IRON was the former Louisville & Nashville 6-section / 6-roomette / 4-double bedroom sleeper 3456 LIGHT PINE, one of 29 Plan 4183 cars built for the L&N, NC&StL and C&EI in March-May 1953. DWCX was the reporting mark for Knoxville scrap dealer David Witherspoon, and the car was on a special train arriving in New Orleans from Knoxville for the Tennessee-Air Force SUGAR BOWL the next day. The car was subsequently sold to the Griggsville Wild Bird Society of Griggsville, Illinois and used for overnight accommodations. After the Griggsville cars were sold off, this one went to the Bowling Green Railroad Museum.
