L&N E7A 781
Louisville & Nashville E7A units 781 and 778 were on train 34, the northbound PIEDMONT at New Orleans. These units were two of eight E7A’s delivered in April 1945 as the 458AB-461AB – right above E6A units 450AB-457AB – and wore this unique blue-and-aluminum paint scheme for use on the new HUMMING BIRD and GEORGIAN streamliners. In late 1946 units 450A-461A were renumbered 750-761 and 450B-461B became 770-781; and at the same time, a reflectorized number plate was mounted above the front buffer. These plates remained until the units were remodeled with large number boxes and repainted into the standard blue-and-cream scheme.
