On 3 October 1951 Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) Mk-5 class 2-8-2 744 was parked outside the shop where it had been built 30 years earlier. The locomotive had been built at the railroad’s ALGIERS SHOPS, just across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, in April 1921 and was sold for scrap to Houston Compressed Steel on 8 February 1955. |
