| Southern E8A 2926 was on the SOUTHERN CRESCENT at Slidell, Louisiana. This unit was unusual because it retained its 2900-series number when it was repainted into the new green scheme. The railroad decided to renumber E8A units 2923-2929 as 6900-6905 and 6916 shortly after it adopted the green paint scheme, so almost all of the other 2900-series units came out of the paint shop with new numbers. The 2926 was renumbered 6903, and became New Jersey Department of Transportation 4333 after it was retired by the Southern in 1979. (approximate date of photo) |
