GM&O GP38AC 727
Gulf, Mobile & Ohio GP38AC 727 was parked under the REBEL SHED at CANAL YARD in New Orleans, between GP35’s 616 and 636. The shed had provided a convenient place to service the REBEL streamliner, which began running in 1935, and it also protected the train so it didn’t sit out in the sun all day. The REBEL stopped serving New Orleans in 1954, but the shed survived until the end of CANAL YARD’s existence about 20 years later. GM&O 727 became ICG 9546, then IC 9546. then Helm Leasing (HLCX) 3678 and then United States Sugar 404. (approximate date of photo)
