L&N E8A 785
New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal SW8 number 1 was moving Louisville & Nashville E8A units 785 and 795, which had come in earlier that morning on the PAN-AMERICAN, and these would be heading back north at 5:15PM. With the beginning of Amtrak on 1 May, this train was discontinued and left for the very last time exactly three weeks after this photo was taken. The 785 had been built in February 1950 as St. Louis-San Francisco (Frisco) 2009, named JET PILOT, and was purchased by the L&N in 1965. It was retired about one year after this photo was taken and was used as a trade-in to EMD.
