SUNSET ROUTE between New Orleans and El Paso."/> Westbound SUNSET
Westbound SUNSET
Cruising along at 70 MPH, SDP40F's 551 and 557 were powering the westbound SUNSET LIMITED passed the "temporary" train order office at Raceland Junction, as the operator gave the train a roll-by inspection. Steam generator car 1918 was tucked in behind the locomotives, which was very unusual. This "temporary" office was placed here soon after a freight train derailment wrecked the previous depot on 10 June 1967 and it remained here for almost 18 years, until the introduction of Direct Traffic Control (DTC) on 18 February 1985 eliminated the need for any train order offices along the SUNSET ROUTE between New Orleans and El Paso.
