CN/IC Dock Job |
Description: |
IC GP38-2 9563 leads the southbound CN/IC DOCK JOB over the New Orleans Public Belt near Audubon Park. (The fifth and six cars are crossing Walnut Street.) This transfer run is on its way from the Mays Yard to Stuyvesant Docks Yard, but most of its cars will be delivered to the New Orleans Public Belt at Cotton Warehouse Yard. After the end of steam operation this job was usually handled by one or two switch engines, but geeps took over in August 1999 as the CN/IC phased out its fleet of SW14's. In April of 2003, just 15 months later, the CN/IC moved its intermodal facility from Stuyvesant Docks to Mays Yard; and at about the same time, the CN/IC-NOPB interchange was moved to Mays Yard so scenes like this disappeared forever. The photo was taken from the Mississippi River levee. |

IC DOCK JOB |
Description: |
Illinois Central GP38-2 9628, originally the ICG GRENVILLE M. DODGE, was on the DOCK JOB bringing cars from the railroad’s MAYS YARD to STUYVESANT DOCKS YARD and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad. The shot was taken at Dakin Avenue, near the line between Orleans and Jefferson parishes. The Norfolk Southern piggyback car behind the locomotive was rebuilt from a boxcar, while the track in the foreground was once the Kansas City Southern’s connection with the NOPB. |
