Canadian National grain train G-840 was northbound at Destrehan, Louisiana – en route from Council Bluffs, Iowa to the grain elevator at Helvetia, Louisiana – behind Illinois Central C40-8W 2464 and SD40-2 6137. The 2464 had been built in September 1994 as LMS 737, became IC 2464 in 2001 and was retired in 2012 after an accident on the CSX; while the 6137 had been built in March 1976 as Burlington Northern 6746, went to the IC in August 1991 and was retired in 2010. G-840 had 28 cars of mixed freight and 92 grain loads. |

A run-through train from the CSX to the Union Pacific was rolling off of the BNSF’s Berwick Bay bridge, through a floodgate and into the siding at Berwick, Louisiana. The signs tell us that this is 81 miles from the former Southern Pacific yard at Algiers, the BNSF identifies this location as the ATCHAFALAYA RIVER DB and the speed limit on the bridge is 25 MPH.
