Description:  This was a view looking west across the Louisiana Midland's bridge over the Black River at Jonesville, Louisiana. A train had recently dragged a derailed car across the structure, with one set of wheels in the gauge and the other on the guard timbers.

LOAM Depot
Title:  LOAM Depot
Description:  This depot was built by the Louisiana & Arkansas Railway, and was subsequently used by the original Louisiana Midland (LM), the Illinois Central Gulf, and finally the new Louisiana Midland (LOAM). When this photo was taken, it was the headquarters for the new Louisiana Midland. The LOAM stopped running in 1985, and the depot burned down on the morning of 19 April 1986.

LOAM RS3 4078
Title:  LOAM RS3 4078
Description:  Louisiana Midland RS3 4078 was parked out-of-service at the east end of the railroad in Ferriday, Louisiana. The locomotive was originally Delaware & Hudson 4078 and then leased to Providence & Worcester as the 163 between 1 February 1973 and 30 April 1974 . Back on the D&H it regained it original number but retained its P&W colors. It was sold to the LOAM in November 1978 and was eventually scrapped here. The 4078's brown paint had weathered to a bluish-purple color.

Car Shop

Description:  Surface Transportation International built a railroad car repair shop along the Louisiana Midland near Ferriday, Louisiana in 1977; but it was purchased by North American Car in 1981 and immediately closed because of overcapacity in that business. Here's what was left seven years later. By this time the LOAM was out of business too.

Description:  The eastern end of the Louisiana Midland was this connection with the Missouri Pacific at Concordia Junction, on the south side of Ferriday, Louisiana. This is a view looking south along the MP towards Vidalia, Louisiana and the car float connection to Natchez, Mississippi. The Louisiana Midland is on the right.

RS3 1602 is still in its Erie Western paint scheme, while the office car is the former SP 133 GUADALUPE. The Alco was originally Litchfield & Madison 302, then Chicago & North Western 302 in January 1958, C&NW 1553:2 in 1971, Erie Western 1602 in June 1978, and finally Louisiana Midland 1602 in July 1980.
