AMTK 8202 |
| Description: |
Amtrak blunt-end dormitory/diner 8202 was on Train 58 – the northbound PANAMA LIMITED – as it was leaving New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal on the day after Christmas 1973. It had been completed by Pullman-Standard on 7 August 1950 as Chesapeake & Ohio blunt-end observation lounge/buffet/5-double-bedroom car 2503 ALLEGHENY CLUB, one of eight such cars built to Plan 4165 in Lot 6863. It was withdrawn from Pullman lease on 21 December 1961, the lounge was remodeled with seven 4-seat tables and a steward’s desk, and a kitchen replaced the buffet and two of the bedrooms. It was renumbered 1925, then in 1971, when it became Amtrak 8202, the steward’s desk was replaced with a 4-seat table. After an accident, it was retired in 1976 and was sold to Ampol Wrecking in Indianapolis. |
