On the last day of 1970 the Louisville & Nashville’s southbound
PAN-AMERICAN
arrived in New Orleans behind U28B 2500 and E8A 796. The 5-car train consisted of baggage car 1473, coaches 3244 and 3250, counter-lounge car 2800 and 10-roomette/6-double-bedroom sleeper 3411
KENTUCKY RIVER
. We don’t know where the GE was added to the train, but it was already on when the train arrived in Mobile. Here was the train backing in past the diesel shop at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal.
