Title:  Amtrak Train 20
Description:  At 7:35 on a Wednesday morning F40 258, E9A 420 and E9B 473 were leading the northbound CRESCENT across Lake Pontchartrain on the Southern Railway. This was a typical set of power between the summer of 1979, when Amtrak’s lease on the Southern Railway E8A’s expired, and the conversion of the train to head-end power (HEP) a year later.

Description:  This set of locomotives - F40 258, E9A 420 and E9B 473- on train No. 20 are typical of the power Amtrak used on the CRESCENT until the train received HERITAGE FLEET equipment in early 1981. After that, it typically ran it a pair of F40's.

Title:  Amtrak No. 20
Description:  Amtrak Train No. 20, the northbound CRESCENT, nears the north end of the Lake Pontchartrain trestle. The train consisted of F40 259, a baggage car, baggage-dormitory car, four coaches, 10-6 sleeper, and diner. When the photo was taken, the old swing span had already been replaced with a lift bridge; but the replacement of the wooden trestle with concrete spans hadn't happened yet.

Description:  Amtrak F40 296 was operating as an OPERATION LIFESAVER special on the Southern Railway's St. Louis Street branch line, and was heading inbound on the median of North Jefferson Davis Parkway. The track here, between North Carrollton Avenue and North Broad Street, was abandoned in 2003 and the right-of-way is now a part of the Lafitte Greenway recreational corridor.

Title:  Amtrak Train No. 1
Description:  At 5:38 PM on Saturday 31 March 1984 Amtrak train No. 1 – the westbound SUNSET LIMITED – was stopped at the station in Lafayette, Louisiana. The train was powered by F4 326 with P30CH units 710 and 721. This station had been built by the Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) in 1912 but was severely damaged by a fire in 2001. The city restored the building, and it reopened in 2007. It was one of several depots along the Sunset Route in Louisiana which were set back from the platform.

Title:  Super Bowl Shuttle
Description:  It's Super Bowl Sunday and at 10:10 this morning Amtrak 391 arrived in New Orleans with nine Superliners full of Chicago BEARS football fans. While the BEARS were beating the New England PATRIOTS, the 391 got to relax in the bright January sun. The train consisted of coaches 34036, 34094, 34060, 34092, 34063, coach-baggage 31007, lounge 33004, and sleepers 32017 and 32006.
