Auto-Train 4006 |
| Description: |
Auto-Train U36B 4006 was on an eastbound train at the foot of the Huey P. Long Bridge. It was with three Louisville & Nashville units and was on its way from the Espee's Avondale Yard to the L&N's Gentilly Yard. Auto-Train 4005-4009 were built in December 1972 and were leased to the L&N for several months, until they were needed by Auto-Train for its new service out of Louisville. While on lease, they were regularly used on the south end of the railroad. (approximate month, slide dated February 1973) |

At 2:45 p.m. this northbound Louisville & Nashville train was waiting to depart from the railroad's GENTILLY YARD in New Orleans with four locomotives from three different railroads in four different paint schemes! It had Canadian National GP40 4015 and Auto-Train U36B 4010, both on lease, as well as L&N GP30 1009 in an obsolete paint scheme and L&N U28Bm 2501 in the then-current FAMILY LINES scheme. |
