GECX (former BNSF) C44-9W 4574 showed shown up at Wabtec’s Fort Worth plant in early February 2023. The locomotive did not display any obvious reporting mark, but notice how neatly the BNSF lettering had been covered up :) This is one of 60 ex-BNSF C44-9W units purchased last year for rebuilding into AC44C6M’s and is the first of these to arrive at Fort Worth. The loco was assigned CN 1893 as a temporary number, but that did not happen before the unit was shipped here from Relco at Albia, Iowa as GECX 4574. |

GECX C44-9W units 4791, 4780, 4826 and 4804 were stored just north of Wabtec’s Fort Worth plant, on the west test track. These locomotives had been built for the BNSF in late 1998 and were retired in late 2019. They were returned to their lessor, Wells Fargo, in early 2020 and subsequently received GECX reporting marks. They arrived at the Fort Worth plant at the end of July 2021. |

Thirteen old locomotives were stored on Wabtec’s west test track, just north of the locomotive plant in Fort Worth. They were GECX (ex-BNSF) 4798 and 4795, CSX 137, GECX 4822 and 4776, UP 6168, GECX 4828, UP 6231, CSX 54, and GECX 4791, 4780, 4826 and 4804. The GECX units were C44-9W’s, while the CSX and UP were AC4400CW’s. |
