Description:  Six months after the Illinois Central and the Gulf Mobile & Ohio merged into the ICG, a set of power with units from both predecessor roads was being serviced at the former GM&O yard in Meridian. GM&O GP35 605, IC GP10's 8188 and 8322, and GM&O 631 had come in from Union with train 333, which was the Meridian connection with St. Louis-New Orleans train 33. (approximate day)

Description:  Gulf, Mobile & Ohio train No. 33 was displaying white flags and white classification lights as it heading across Bayou Liberty Road in Slidell, Louisiana. The train had just entered the main line of the Southern Railway for the last leg of its journey into New Orleans, behind GP35 606, GP38AC 728 and GP35 631.

Description:  Gulf Mobile & Ohio GP35 635 was in the railroad’s CANAL YARD in New Orleans. The locomotive, along with GP30 522, had come in on train No. 33 and would go back out that evening on No. 32. It was assigned Illinois Central Gulf number 2533 in 1972, but was sold to the Paducah & Louisville in August 1986, before ever receiving its ICG number. The PAL subsequently transferred the unit to its subsidiary VMV Enterprises. (approximate date of photo)

GM&O Train No. 33
Title:  GM&O Train No. 33
Description:  A crewman on Gulf Mobile & Ohio train No. 33 was catching a set of orders in the crook of his arm as he passed Southern Railway agent-operator R.L. Lott at the Slidell, Louisiana depot. The trainman was repeating a procedure that took place on railroads all across North America for over 150 years, in this case obtaining authority for his train to operate over 28 miles of the Southern from Slidell to OLIVER JUNCTION in New Orleans. The device Mr. Lott was holding was known as a HIGH-SPEED TRAIN ORDER DELIVERY FORK and the orders were held in place by a piece of string. Mr. Lott went to work for the Southern when he got out of the Navy following WWII, retired around 1982 and passed away on 19 September 2016, at the age of 90. (approximate date of photo)

ICG Shore Line Local
Title:  ICG Shore Line Local
Description:  Former Gulf Mobile & Ohio GP35 639 was powering the Illinois Central Gulf's Shore Line Local through Mandeville, Louisiana; on its way from Covington to Bogalusa. The train had just crossed U.S. Highway 190 and was now turning east towards Slidell, where it would turn north again and head up the former GM&O main line to Bogalusa. The whistle post next to those red and black CZCX (Crown Zellerbach Corporation) pulpwood cars was for Carroll Street. After the branch was abandoned in 1991 most of the right of way became the Tammany Trace trail. (approximate date)
