Description:  SP GP35 6617 (on a siding) and L&N GP40 3000 (on the northbound main track) were two of four units on an L&N-SP run-through train which derailed just west of the Franklin Avenue underpass. L&N GP30 1013 was just pulling up on the southbound main track with the MOBILE WRECKER.

SP-L&N Transfer Run
Title:  SP-L&N Transfer Run
Description:  A transfer run from the Southern Pacific’s AVONDALE YARD to the Louisville & Nashville’s GENTILLY YARD was at Louisa Street on the east side of New Orleans as it approached the L&N yard. The train was powered by L&N GP30 1043, SP C630 units 3140, 3146 and 3142, SP GP9R 3341 and L&N GP40 3004. Those big Alcos disappeared from here about a year later and went into storage, then were sold for scrap in 1979.

Title:  L&N 3007
Description:  L&N GP40's 3007 and 3018, Cotton Belt SD45T-2 9157, and SP SD45 9133 lead an eastbound run-through train across New Orleans, from the Espee's Avondale Yard to the L&N's Gentilly Yard. The train is stopped on the Southern Railway at Frenchman Street. While waiting for clearance to get onto the L&N, the engineer has put up a shade to protect himself from the sun.

Title:  L&N GP40 3025
Description:  Louisville & Nashville GP40 units 3025 and 3002 were parked at the Missouri Pacific’s Avondale Yard, just west of New Orleans, along with MP GP35M 2504. At that time, L&N units were frequent visitors to Avondale on transfer runs.
