Title:  Northbound MP/UP Train
Description:  A northbound train was preparing to leave the MP/UP Avondale Yard just west of New Orleans with three assorted SD40-2's, while blue MP GP15-2 1672 was switching on an adjacent track. The big engines were yellow MP 3107, yellow UP 3235 and blue MP 3278.

Description:  A westbound Missouri Pacific train was in AVONDALE YARD, just west oi New Orleans, with seven locomotives: SD40-2 3130, SD40 3028, two GP18’s, an MP15DC, another GP18 and another MP15DC. The Department of Defense 10,000-gallon tank car on the next track was probably on its way to or from ENGLAND AIR FORCE BASE at Alexandria, Louisiana. (approximate date of photo)

Race Steet Yard was closed in early 1984, and the land was used as the primary parking lot for the 1984 Louisiana Wold Exposition. Title:  MP SD40-2 6016
Description:  Between 1976 and 1980 the Missouri Pacific purchased 74 SD40-2's for use on unit coal trains. The obvious difference from the railroad's other SD40-2's was the dynamic brake housing, but the first 20 units - such as this one - were also equipped with a nose-mounted oscillating light so as to be compatible with D&RGW power. These 20 units were delivered as the 3216-3235, and then renumbered 6000-6019 in May 1978, while the other 54 coal units were delivered new as the 6020-6073. All of them became Union Pacific 3900-3973.
