Cotton Belt SD45T-2 9300 was on the westbound SUNSET LIMITED as it left New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, along with FP7 6447 and F7B 8290. The 11-car train consisted of baggage car ATSF 3536, three sleepers AMTK 2265 PLACID SCENE, AMTK 2011 CARDINAL, ATSF PINE SHORE, dormitory-lounge ATSF 1340, diner SP 10215, buffet-lounge UP 6200, and four high-level coaches AMTK 9915, 9949, 9947, and 9925. During the transition for former UP E-units back to ex-SP F-units in June and July 1973 SP freight engines were frequently used on the train. |

At dusk on a Sunday, Cotton Belt bicentennial SD45T-2 9389 and SP SDP45 3204 were resting at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. They had come in on a special train the previous day, and would head back west tomorrow. The 13-car train consisted of baggage car 298, office cars 99, 106 OREGON, 117 TUCSON, 140 STANFORD and 100 AIRSLIE, UP sleeper OMAHA, SP office cars 141 OAKLAND and 107 DEL MONTE, lounge car 291, diner 290, sleeper 292, and office car 150 SUNSET. |
