L&N C430 5601 |
Description: |
Louisville & Nashville Alco C430 5601 rests between runs at Goulding Yard in Pansacola, between U23B's 2718 and 2719. The locomotive had a very interesting history, having been built in March 1967 as one of three Alco C430 demonstrators: 430-1 through 430-3. This unit was originally Alco 430-2 and then Seaboard Coast Line 1276. SCL sold these units to the L&N in 1976, where they were renumbered 5600-5602; but they only wore these numbers for three years. In 1979 the L&N assigned them to yard service and renumbered them 2244, 2247 and 2260; but all three were retired two years later, in October 1981. |
