Title:  MSE GP50 68
Description:  Mississippi Export GP50 68 BIG DADDY was parked outside the railroad’s shop at Moss Point, Mississippi. The locomotive had been built in May 1980 as Chicago & North Western 5052 and was renumbered Union Pacific 901 in March 1996, then it was assigned UP 5511 but not renumbered, and was renumbered UP 1611 in April 2002. After it was retired on 30 September 2002, it became First Union Rail as (FURX) 2902, then National Railway Equipment Co. (NREX) 2902, and went to the Mississippi Export in May 2015.

Description:  A BNSF yard job with GP50 3117 and SD40-2 1767 had just pulled newly-remanufactured Union Pacific C44ACM 7110 off of the Wabtec interchange at Justin, Texas and was pushing it back to the BNSF ALLIANCE YARD, about five miles away.

Description:  The 3507 was the lead unit on a westbound transfer run from the L&N's Gentilly Yard to the MP's Avondale yard. An L&N crew had brought the train here, to Shrewsbury Road in Metairie; and it is waiting for an MP crew to complete its journey to Avondale.

Description:  Missouri Pacific GP50 3507 was parked on the New Orleans Public Belt at Shrewsbury Road in suburban Metairie, Louisiana. It was on a transfer run from the Seaboard System to the MP, and the SBD crew has left the train here for the MP to pick up. For several months up until May 1984 this was the official interchange for these trains.

Fair Train
Title:  Fair Train
Description:  Almost every Friday during the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition the Union Pacific ran a special passenger train from Houston to a siding at the fair site in New Orleans. It's 4:35 and one of the Fair Trains nears the end of its trip, operating over the New Orleans Public Belt behind Audubon Park. This is a typical example, with MP GP50 3515 and ex-Rock Island GP40 612, staff car CABARTON, sleeper OMAHA, lounge car 6203, and office car 102. The photo was taken from the Mississippi River levee.

Description:  Recently-delivered Southern Railway GP50's 7025 and 7033, along with SD40-2 3214, lead southbound piggyback train No. 219 through Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The first car of the train is on the crossing with the ICG's line from Jackson to Gulfport and Mobile.

Description:  At 4:15 on a November afternoon Missouri Pacific train HNS -- from Houston to New Orleans to the Southeern Railway -- was stopped at Waggaman, awaiting permission to enter the MP's Avondale Yard. The train had three of the Southern's newest locomtives: GP50's 7042, 7046 and 7086. The track in the foreground was the Southern Pacific's SUNSET ROUTE.

Description:  Here we have a meet on the NS (SOU) Back Belt at the Frenchman Street crossover. On the left is SP train AXAVT, the APL stack train from Long Beach, on its way to Atlanta via the Southern Railway. Meeting it is Southern No. 193, the run-through train from Birmingham to Houston, with GP50 7062 and SP SD45R's 7409 and 7402.

Title:  SBD Y104 (7)
Description:  Southern Pacific Job 107 was meeting Seaboard System job Y104 on the Norfolk Southern's OUTER BELT in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie. Job 107 was eastbound on the Passing Track with Southern GP50 7077, B30-7A 3520 and GP50 7076. This was the run-through train from Houston to Atlanta, and it will become train 194 when it is delivered to the Norfolk Southern. The track on the right was the now-removed L&A Long Siding, where the Southern once delivered cars to the Kansas City Southern, and just ahead was the Atherton Drive grade crossing. The photo was taken from the cab of Southern Pacific SD45R 7409, and Job Y109 was on its way from the SBD's GENTILLY YARD to the SP at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge.
