NOC&BT 12
Title:  NOC&BT 12
Description:  The New Orleans Coal & Bisso Towboat Co. was located along the Mississippi River at Walnut Street, near Audubon Park. It was served by the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, and used an assortment of steam locomotives to move hopper cars between a little yard along the NOPB and its coaling facility along the river. This facility was used to service Bisso’s own tugboats and ferries, and also supplied other coal-burning vessels up until the mid-1950’s.

Mogul No. 12 was built by ALCo-Pittsburg in April 1911 under serial no. 49999 as Crystal City & Uvalde No. 5 at Crystal City, Texas. The railroad had been charted on 19 April 1909 and it was renamed the San Antonio, Uvalde & Gulf Railroad on 4 April 1912. The engine was renumbered SAU&G 20 that September, became H. Weston Lumber Co. 12 at Logtown, Mississippi in 1925 via the Birmingham Rail & Locomotive Co., and went to Bisso at an unknown date. (approximate day and month)

SP Avondale Yard
Title:  SP Avondale Yard
Description:  On 24 April 1955 elderly M-4 class Mogul 438 and T-28 Ten-Wheeler 695 were stored at Avondale Yard, just west of New Orleans, while 2-year-old F7A 373 was backing down onto train 241. The 2-6-0 had been built by Cooke in June 1900 as then 968, was renumbered 428 in 1901, then second 438 in August 1950, and was sold for scrap to Commercial Metals in Houston six months after this photo was taken. The 373 had been built in July 1953, was transferred to the Pacific Lines in November 1960 and was renumbered 6469, then it was retired in May 1968 and sold back to EMD; so the F7 was only on the roster for 15 years, while the Mogul lasted for 55!
