KCS 712 and 656
Title:  KCS 712 and 656
Description:  On Thursday morning 28 March 2002 Kansas City Southern northbound intermodal train No. 10 struck an 18-wheeler loaded with concrete piles at the Louisiana Concrete Products grade crossing in Baton Rouge. This photo was taken three days later, and shows the train’s first two engines parked on the BATON ROUGE MORNING ADVOCATE newspaper plant siding. The damage to the train’s lead unit, SD50 712, is obvious; while the second unit, SD40-2 656, had a gash on the engineer’s side of its fuel tank. The train’s third unit, SD40M-2 626, was unharmed, as was the crew.

KCS and L&NW
Title:  KCS and L&NW
Description:  Kansas City Southern GP40-2LW units 4700, 4712 and 4717 were on the interchange track connecting the railroad’s MERIDIAN SPEEDWAY – just behind the photographer – and the branch line to Hodge, Louisiana. This branch had been the North Louisiana & Gulf and then the Central Louisiana & Gulf, and it would be leased by Watco as the Louisiana Southern three months after this photo. On the left was Louisiana & North West GP11 55, while GP40 57 and GP35 54 were in the L&NW diesel shop; and the building on the right was the former NL&G freight house.
