| Description: |
This was the Illinois Central centennial marker by the station at Hammond, Louisiana. The railroad placed a pair of these medallions at stations throughout its system to commemorate its 100th anniversary in 1951. Some of the bronze medals, such as this pair, were mounted on stones markers; while other pairs were placed directly on buildings. They are sometimes available for sale on-line. |

Kansas City Southern yard slugs were not typically used at West Yard, just outside of New Orleans; but several of them were regularly kept at the yard in Baton Rouge, and these came to New Orleans for inspections and maintenance. Here were slugs 4257 and 4252 with F7A 4061 outside the diesel shop at West Yard. |

| Description: |
Southern Railway E8A 6905 was being watered on the northbound CRESCENT at Meridian, Mississippi while on a 6-month lease to Amtrak. The locomotive was built in September 1951 as the 2928, and it was modified with dynamic brakes and roof-mounted air tanks in 1958. It was renumbered 6905 in 1972, was leased to Amtrak on 1 February 1979, and was shipped to Precision National Corp. on 3 November 1979. |

The train was powered by UP U30C 2939, Milwaukee Road SD40-2 156, Missouri Pacific GP38-2 2092 and UP SD40 3065; and it left at 4:30 p.m. with one flat car, 22 covered hoppers and MP bay-window caboose 13708. |
