Relco Shop
Title:  Relco Shop
Description:  This was the Railway Equipment Leasing Co. (Relco) shop at St. Gabriel, Louisiana; located along the Illinois Central Gulf between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The two NW2's are former Frisco/BN units waiting to be repainted for the Acadiana Railway. The first unit is still in its Frisco paint scheme and displays its BN number -- 412 -- on its number boards; but it wears a Dixie River Railroad (DXZE) emblem on its cab and is crudely lettered AKDN 101. The other unit -- former BN 403 -- wears the DXZE blue-and-white paint scheme, and would become AKDN 102. The DXZE was incorporated to acquire the former UP/MP line between McGehee, Arkansas and Vidalia, Louisiana; but it was unable to obtain the necessary financing and the sale never took place.

AKDN NW2 102
Title:  AKDN NW2 102
Description:  In 1990, the Acadiana Railway purchased two disconnected sections of trackage from the Union Pacific and a short piece of line from the Southern Pacific, all in southwest Louisiana. Operations over these lines began on 1 June 1990 using a pair of former Burlington Northern NW2’s. The 101 had a crawfish on its cab while the 102 had a shrimp, and here was the SHRIMP UNIT with its windows boarded up. It was EMD frame number E1093-1, built in December 1948 as Colorado & Southern 153, then became Burlington Northern 403. It went to the stillborn Dixie River as the 403 and then to the Acadiana as the 102.
