L&N E8A 797
Title:  L&N E8A 797
Description:  Louisville & Nashville E8A 797 was parked on the Old East Siding at Pascagoula, Mississippi with a special passenger train from New Orleans, along with F7B 1915 and E7A 790. The locomotive had been freshly repainted with Dupont DULUX enamel on 10 September 1962, but it was missing its pilot! The 797 had been built in May 1951 and was the last E-unit built for the L&N. It was retired in May 1972 and traded-in to EMD.

L&N E8A 797
Title:  L&N E8A 797
Description:  On Friday morning 4 December 1970 the Louisville & Nashville’s southbound PAN-AMERICAN whacked a dump truck loaded with dirt at the Industrial Road grade crossing in eastern New Orleans, about 10 miles from the railroad’s GENTILLY YARD and 18 miles from the train’s destination at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The lead unit, E8A 797, was set out at GENTILLY, where it was photographed by the railroad’s Mobile claim agent Bobby L. Shrum; while trailing E8A 788 was turned and took the train to NOUPT. L&N E8A 797
Title:  L&N E8A 797
Description:  Louisville & Nashville E8A 797 and an E7A were parked at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal engine terminal, awaiting their 5:15PM departure on the northbound PAN-AMERICAN. About three months earlier, on 4 December 1970, the 797 had been damaged when it struck a loaded dump truck in eastern New Orleans; but as can be seen here, its nose was nicely repaired and repainted. It was retired in May 1972 and used as a trade-in with EMD. (approximate date of photo)
