Southern Railway Office
Title:  Southern Railway Office
Description:  This was the Southern Railway's office building at 1205 St. Louis Street in New Orleans. The statue is Central American statesman General Francisco Morazán (1792-1847) and it is on the median of Basin Street. This land was occupied by the tracks leading into the Southern's TERMINAL STATION up until the move to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 1954.

Title:  NS GP38-2 5049
Description:  Norfolk Southern GP38-2 5049 was working on the railroad's St. Louis Street branch at North St. Patrick Street. Up until 1954, this line was used by Southern and GM&O passenger trains for access to Terminal Station on Canal Street, and the tracks on the right of the geep were the remnants of Bernadotte Yard. Notice the Southern Railway whistle post on the left.

NS St. Louis Street Line
Title:  NS St. Louis Street Line
Description:  This view was looking south along the former Norfolk Southern ST. LOUIS STREET LINE from Jefferson Davis Parkway, shortly after this portion of the branch had been abandoned. Between 1908 and 1954 this line carried passenger trains of several railroads into and out of the Southern Railway’s TERMINAL STATION on Basin Street at Canal Street. After passenger trains moved to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 1954, this line continued to serve a varied-but-declining assortment of freight customers into the late 20th century. This right-of-way is now occupied by the LAFITTE GREENWAY linear park.

Title:  NS Compromise Joint
Description:  This compromise angle bar was on the Norfolk Southern (former Southern Railway) SAINT LOUIS STREET LINE in New Orleans, near Jefferson Davis – now Norman C. Francis – Parkway. This particular bar enabled the connection of an 85-pound-per-yard American Railway Association (85A) profile rail on the left with a 100-pound American Railway Engineering Association (100RE) rail. A full set of bars for a complete joint consists of bars A-D, and this is bar B. Below the 85A lettering is the word WORN. (approximate date of photo)

Sign at East City Junction
Title:  Sign at East City Junction
Description:  This sign along the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal EASTERN CONNECTION where it joined the Norfolk Southern at EAST CITY JUNCTION alerted crews on Amtrak’s CRESCENT and SUNSET to change their radio channels. The tower in the distance was built around 1950 and closed on 10 August 1972, but it was still standing in 2020. On the right, construction was underway on former railroad property for the First Baptist Church of New Orleans. (approximate date of photo)

Description:  This is the right-of-way of the Southern Railway's St. Louis Street branch line, looking south from North Broad Street, taken several years after the track was removed between here and the end of the branch at Basin Street. The right-of-way is now a part of the Lafitte Greenway recreational corridor.

Description:  This is the right-of-way of the Southern Railway's St. Louis Street branch line, looking south from North Dupre Street, as a backhoe was removing the ballast. The track here was abandoned in 2003 and the right-of-way is now a part of the Lafitte Greenway recreational corridor.

Description:  This beverage distributor at the corner of Lafitte Street and North Dupre Street was the last customer on the Southern Railway's St. Louis Street branch line between North Broad Street and North Carrollton Avenue. This section of the branch was abandoned in 2003.
