L&NW FP7A 49
Title:  L&NW FP7A 49
Description:  This sharp-looking FP7 was built in January 1950 as Western Pacific 805A. After 20 years of hauling the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR between Salt Lake City and Oakland, WP traded it in to GE in August 1972. GE sold it to the Wellsville, Addison & Galeton the next month, but it never received a WAG number. It moved to the Louisiana & North West in 1976 and was photographed early the next year sitting outside the railroad's Gibsland engine house in very fresh L&NW paint. It was sold to the Portola Railroad Museum in July 1986 and restored as WP 805A.

Description:  Newly-rebuilt and freshly-painted Louisiana & North West GP7 50 was parked outside the railroad’s shop at Gibsland, Louisiana. The locomotive had been built in June 1953 as Union Pacific 711, was renumbered UP 111 in November 1953, retired in July 1979 and used as a trade-in to General Electric on 13 March 1980. GE sold it to the Louisiana & North West in January 1981, where it was rebuilt into L&NW 50 and was completed the day before this photo was taken.

L&NW F7A 47
Title:  L&NW F7A 47
Description:  This F7A was built in November 1949 as Southern Pacific 6309. The Espee retired it in July 1969 and traded-in to General Electric the next month. GE quickly sold it to Wellsville Addison & Galeton in 1969; but it was never used by the WA&G. It was transferred to the Louisiana & North West in 1971 where it was renumbered 47. It was purchased by Entertainment Trains Inc. in May 1990 and renumbered 200 for excursion service between Houston and Galveston. After that operation ended, the locomotive was stored at the Galveston Railroad Museum. It was photographed outside the engine house at Gibsland, in the midst of its career on the L&NW.

NL&G GP38 46
Title:  NL&G GP38 46
Description:  This image of North Louisiana & Gulf GP38 46 illustrates the built-out cab front that was used on 15 Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines GP38's, 14 Penn Central GP38's and 5 Reading SD45's between 1967 and 1971. The design provided extra space inside the cab on units equipped with a dual-control console. This was a large box in the middle of the cab, with a set of controls on each side, and was offered as an alternative to using two complete sets of controls in opposite corners of the cab. This unit was built as PRSL 2000, and was subsequently Conrail 7660, NL&G 46, Iowa Interstate 600, GMTX 2080 and then GMTX 2690. Dodson, Louisiana is on the former Rock Island line between Hodge and Winnfield.

MidLouisiana Rail
Title:  MidLouisiana Rail
Description:  Even though the reporting mark for the MidLouisiana Rail Corp. was MDS, MP15DC 45 is lettered MLRC; but the other three locos are still lettered for the North Louisiana & Gulf. The NL&G was renamed MDS when it was purchased by MidSouth Rail in July 1987. Scenes like this were only possible for two more years, since slug 50 (originally Rock Island SW1 531, then slug 998, then NL&G 50 in 1981) was sold to the Steelton & Highspire in 1989. The four NL&G/MDS MP15DC's were returned to their owner, Connell Leasing, in 1991. The Louisiana & North West diesel shop is behind the MDS/NL&G units. L&NW caboose 216 is coupled to F7A 45 and -- out of sight -- GP7 52.
