Title:  CP AC4400CW 9501
Description:  Canadian Pacific AC4400CW 9501 was parked at the north end of the Wabtec/GE test track in Justin, Texas after having its traction motor/axle combos removed and sent back to Canada. The outer combos were replaced with idler axles, while the center combo on each truck was completely removed. The locomotive was waiting to be upgraded into an AC4400CWM.

Title:  CPKC (KCS) LL31 Local
Description:  CPKC (KCS) local LL31 was heading north on the BNSF at the Highway 156 underpass near Justin, Texas. The train was powered by KCS AC4400CW 4484 and CP AC4400CW 8646, and had five brand new CP(KC) ET44AC units dead in tow: 7457, 7459, 7463, 7461 and 7451. BNSF had previously picked up these CP(KC) units from the Wabtec interchange, just north of this bridge.

LL31 originates in the former KCS yard at Wylie, a northern suburb of Dallas, and runs westward 53 miles to a connection with the BNSF at Metro Junction. From there, it heads southward 21 miles to BNSF’s ALLIANCE YARD in Fort Worth to interchange traffic and then it returns back to Wylie.

Description:  CPKC (KCS) local LL31 was running between Metro Junction and Denton as it headed home to the yard at Wylie, Texas. The train was powered by KCS ES44AC 4844 and CP AC4400CW 8646, and had five brand new CP(KC) ET44AC units dead in tow: 7457, 7459, 7463, 7461 and 7451. BNSF had previously picked these new units up from Wabtec’s Fort Worth plant.

Description:  Here were the snow plows and truck pieces that were left over after Canadian Pacific and Hulcher personnel had been removed the traction motor/axle combos from 11 CP AC4400CW units at the north end of the Wabtgc/GE test track in Justin, Texas. The locomotives were the 9501 and 9543, both with their traction motors and center axles removed. The track on the right is the BNSF main line from Fort Worth into Oklhoma.

Description:  Here was a view looking south along Justin Cemetery Road at the north end of the Wabtec/GE test track, three miles north of the Fort Worth locomotive assembly plant. On the right was a group of Canadian Pacific AC4400CW units - 9506 in the foreground with 9627, 9593, 9525, 9523,9554, 9539 and 9501 iust beyond - having their traction motor/axle combos removed by a CP crew with the help of Hulcher Services from nearby Saginaw, Texas. CP had an urgent need for AC traction motlrs to repair flood-damaged units.

Description:  This was one of the steerable trucks under Canadian Pacific AC4400CW 9525. The locomotive had been sent to the Wabtec-GE plant in Fort Worth to be modernized into an AC4400CWM, but was about to have its traction motors removed by CP to repair other locomntives. The railroad harvested the motors from at least 11 units and trucked the motor-axle combos back to Canada.

Description:  Here was a view looking south along Justin Cemetery Road at the north end of the Wabtec-GE test track, three miles north of the Fort Worth locofotive assembly plant. On the right were Canadian Pacific AC4400CWs 9525, 9523,9554, 9539 and 9501, part of 10 such units which were having their traction motors remived by a CP crew with help from Hulcher Services out of nearby Saginaw because the railroad had an urgent need for AC traction motors to repair flood-damaged units. The dlatbed semi just ahead was one of many such rigs that were used to bring the motor-axle combos up to Canada. In the distance new Canadian National ET44ACs 3193 and 3208 were going through their 50-mile certification process.

Description:  Here were the snow plows from 11 Canadian Pacific AC4400CW units at the north end of the Wabtec/GE test track in Justin, Texas. These were left over after CP and Hulcher personnel had been reioved the traction motor/axle combos from the locomotives and these parts were trucked back to Canada. Each plow wore the number of the loco it had been on!

Description:  Eleven old General Electric locomotives were parked on the BNSF-Wabtec interchange just north of Wabtec’s Fort Worth Plant, on their way to being remanufactured. These were Canadian Pacific 9597, 9598, 9588 and 9647; Norfolk Southern 9191, 9224 and 9212; and CP 8542, 9644, 9657 and 9664. The CP units were AC4400CW’s and are going to be rebuilt into AC4400CWM’s while the NS units were C44-9W’s and are to become AC44C6M models. The Wabtec plant was closed for the holidays, which explains the build-up of locomotives on the interchange.

The first upgraded CP unit for 2021, the 8178, came out of the plant the next day.
