A trio of E-units were powering a healthy-sized PANAMA LIMITED out of New Orleans at the Jefferson Davis Parkway overpass. Two dome cars were on the rear of the train: coach-dormitory-coffee shop car 9801 SILVER PATIO and parlor-observation car 9301 SILVER VISTA. Both were originally Burlington cars and were not very common on trains 58/59. (approximate date) |

Illinois Central train No. 2 – the northbound CITY OF NEW ORLEANS – was approaching Carrollton Avenue Station in New Orleans, just a few minutes after leaving Union Passenger Terminal. The 8-car train was powered by an A-B-A set of E-units, led by E9A 4038, and included one of the IC’s six former Missouri Pacific dome cars on the rear. |

Beat-up Illinois Central (actually ICG) E9A 4038, along with Amtrak E9B 450 and E8A 208, raised some dust as they accelerated the northbound PANAMA LIMITED out of New Orleans. The train was at Shrewsbury Road, near East Bridge Junction, and the overpass in the background is Causeway Boulevard. |
