MidSouth Rail Geeps |
Description: |
In this view from Mississippi Highway 3, MidSouth Rail GP10's 1014 and 1022 were switching Ballground Yard, just north of the big International Paper Co. mill near Redwood, Mississippi. This track was once a part of the Illinois Central's 29-mile REDWOOD DISTRICT, completed between Redwood Junction and Valley in 1967 and one of the last new lines built by the IC. Because of unstable roadbed conditions in areas adjacent to the Yazoo River, the northern 20 miles of the line - between Ballground Yard and Valley - were abandoned in 1975 after less than 10 years in operation. This track is currently owned by the Kansas City Southern and operated by Watco's Vicksburg Southern. |
