Description: |
Southern Pacific 0-6-0 842 was switching cars along the Mississippi River levee, at the north end (railroad east) of Algiers Yard. The locomotive had been built by Lima (6772) in March 1924 as the 156 and was renumbered second 842 in October 1953. It was sold to Standard Sand & Gravel Co. in January 1956 (10 months after this photo) and it still exists. It moved to the Casey Jones Museum in Vaughn, Mississippi in March 1984 and then to Terry, Mississippi in May 2005. (correct month, approximate day) |

Description: |
Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) S-14 class 0-6-0 844 was at AVONDALE YARD, just west of New Orleans. The locomotive had been built at the railroad’s HOUSTON SHOPS in December 1925 as the 159, was renumbered second 844 on 30 October 1953 and sold for scrap to Commercial Metals in Houston on 5 February 1957. |
