The SOUTHERN CRESCENT
Title: The SOUTHERN CRESCENT
Description: Southern Railway train No. 2 - the northbound SOUTHERN CRESCENT - was accelerating away from its station stop at Slidell, Louisiana behind E8A's 2928 and 6914. As built, the 2928 did not have any sublettering; but today it was wearing CNO&TP lettering on the rear of its carbody beneath its radiator grills. The 6914 originally carried NO&NE sublettering and now displayed AGS, reflecting the fact that the NO&NE had been merged into the AGS on 31 January 1969. (approximate date of photo)

Southern Passenger Special
Title: Southern Passenger Special
Description: Here was a trainload of Southern Railway attorneys leaving New Orleans for Atlanta – and points in between – on the Sunday morning after a convention in the CRESCENT CITY. The special consisted of E8A’s 6914, 6915 and 6913 with 15 cars: coach 842, office cars 9 and 2, coaches 819, 818 and 3789, coach-lounge 952, dining cars 3309 and 3869, coach-lounge 955, coaches 846, 3788, 816 and 823, and theater car 19 BUENA VISTA. The train had come in the previous Thursday evening, along with a 20-car train from Washington; but the Washington train had left at 11:30 the previous evening so its passengers could be at work on Monday morning. Notice the end door on Southern boxcar 40201. The photo was taken from the former Orleans Ave. grade crossing, near New Orleans Terminal Co. milepost 4.
