SP 3142 |
Description: |
It's 1:20 and an eastbound Espee transfer run is waiting at the east end of the Huey Long Bridge for the westbound SUNSET to clear East Bridge Junction and get on the bridge. The SUNSET left New Orleans Union Passenger terminal at 1:00 and will be here in about five minutes. This train has C630's 3142 and 3144, and is bound for one or more of the Espee's eastern connections. Look at all of those 40-foot boxcars! |

SP Alcos |
Description: |
Two pairs of 6-axle Alcos -- C630's 3142 and 3144 on the left, RSD12 2959/C630 3140 on the right -- rest in the railroad's East Bridge Yard. While these units were not very popular elsewhere on the SP, the railroad found them useful for dragging transfer runs across the Huey P. Long Bridge. All were gone from here by late 1977. |
